Photographs Offered Before Rides Make Excellent Souvenirs

PIONEER PORTRAITS, a new photography company in Joseph, will be set up at the depot prior to the July 7 and 18 train rides, offering photographs for a small fee. This is your golden opportunity to have your photo taken beside the train, as the perfect souvenir of your ride. Choose a costume or be yourself – either way, a photo taken by a professional will bring back memories of the day for years to come. Get a preview of photographer Ashley Burton’s work at

As summer warms up, so, too, does the train’s excursion season. We have some fun rides ahead, as well as our annual opportunity to thank and honor United States veterans and military personnel.

We are nearing capacity for the two Veterans’ Trains, Saturdays, June 30 and July 7. We thank our sponsors, Anderson Perry, La Grande Les Schwab, and Wallowa Union Railroad, for making these trips possible. Their contributions pay for lunches for each veteran and a guest and cover the expense of running the train.

Wednesday, July 18, is the only mid-week train ride we offer this season. So, if someone you know is unable to ride on a Saturday because of work or other weekend obligations, please make sure they know about this trip. It is our standard Two Rivers, includes a box lunch, and takes about 3.5 hours. Booking is available online, and the prices and full trip descriptions are found on a drop-down menu under “Ride the Train.”

Saturday, July 28, is our first Bigfoot train. Interest in the famous creature seems to come and go, but it is definitely a hot topic today. We will make room for some fun, as well as for serious contemplation and education. Our guest expert on this ride is Scot Violette of Blue Mountain Bigfoot Research,, headquartered in Baker City and working across the Northwest. Hearing about his research, and seeing what’s lurking in the woods, could make a believer of you!

So, Big Foot fans, this ride is for you. Lunch on this trip, prepared by Chuckwagon Sisters of Joseph, would please any Sasquatch. Be sure to check out the special Big Foot gift items and souvenirs available in the depot before and after the trip.
