Join us for an ELGIN DEPOT EVENT!
During the winter, the Friends of the Joseph Branch host a series of movie and refreshments nights in the Elgin Depot. The next showing is Friday, February 23, at 6 p.m. The featured movie will be announced. Admission is just one can of food per person, for donation to the local food bank. Refreshments are available for purchase. Come watch a vintage railroad movie on a large screen and enjoy the depot ambiance.
Completed in 2012, the Elgin Depot has a nice gift shop, ticket office, waiting area in the spacious lobby, and fully accessible rest rooms. There is a meeting room that seats up to fourteen people. The depot is available for rent and has a capacity of 45 to 60, depending on seating arrangements. Contact Ken Kirk, 541.910.6440, or Daryl Hawes, 541.437.1810, for availability and price information.
Exhibits about the Wallowa Union Railroad and the historic Joseph Branch are installed in the lobby. A paved parking lot and bus parking area are also major upgrades to the operation. There are bike racks for securing your bike while you are riding the train. The depot was funded in part by a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
