The Mother’s Day Brunch Train is always popular and seats are limited. Departing Sunday, May 12, from the Elgin depot at 10 a.m., this trip is the only opportunity each year to see the hidden Grande Ronde and lower Wallowa River canyons dressed in spring greens and wild flowers. The scenery is spectacular throughout the 3.5 hour trip. The delicious brunch is prepared by Ten Depot Street Restaurant of La Grande and features breakfast and lunch entrees, fruit, pastries and beverages. Completed in 2012, the depot has ample space for the gift shop, ticket office and waiting area and spacious, fully accessible rest rooms. Exhibits about the Wallowa Union Railroad and the historic Joseph Branch will be installed in the lobby later in the summer. A paved parking lot and bus parking area are also major upgrades to the operation. There are even bike racks for securing your bike while you are riding the train.
